Home visit to Mathanun

Well this morning's visit to this sweet child was an unmitigated success.

As you can see from the photographs, when he saw the package Suky was carrying, all beautifully wrapped and ribboned, he immediately put on his Santa hat. It was Christmas all over again for him, and he was so excited. Mind you his smile then was nothing like the beam when he saw the contents of the box - Ben 10 and Pooh B ear can do that in an instant!

The house he now lives in is rented by his aunt and her husband who live on the upper floor, and Mathanun and his grandparents live on the ground floor.

They don't pay rent, but from the income they make from selling somtam and Thai spaghetti around the neighbourhood, they pay towards the utilities.

They live in one large room, Mathanun and his grandma sleep on the bed and grandpa sleeps on a single mattress at the side of them. The mattresses are discoloured and old, partly due to the fact that Mathanun still sometimes wets the bed.

Grandpa is blind in one eye, due to a problem after an operation we understand
